A SECOND GRADE VIEW OF:

and Double Oak
Bob Rheudasil, first mayor of Flower Mound, and grandson, Beau, a student in Mrs. Dennison's class

Our elementary school is in Flower Mound, a picturesque town bordered by pastures of grazing horses near growing modern residentail developments.
In the 1840's, original settlers discovered an unusual formation rising up from the prairie flatlands, a 12 1/2 acre mound, 50 feet high. This inspired the naming of Flower Mound and historians speculate that the mound was a sacred ceremonial ground of Wichita Indians. Flower Mound is situated north of Dallas and Fort Worth, 10 miles from DFW International Airport.
It was incorporated as a town in 1961 with a mayor and town council, and has experienced phenomenal growth. Since 1987 its population has increased 350 percent to more than 40,000 residents.
Some of our students also live in Double Oak which has a population of 2,200 people. It also has a mayor and town council, and residents enjoy larger lots in a rural setting, but are still near to Dallas and Fort Worth.
