Facts With 0

Add 0 to another number and that number is the answer.  0 doesn't change anything.

Subtract 0 from a number and the answer is that number.  0 doesn't change anything.

10 + 0 = 10

10 - 0 = 10

11 + 0 = 11

11 - 0 = 11

12 + 0 = 12

12 - 0 = 12

13 + 0 = 13

13 - 0 = 13

14 + 0 = 14

14 - 0 = 14

15 + 0 = 15

15 - 0 = 15

16 + 0 = 16

16 - 0 = 16

17 + 0 = 17

17 - 0 = 17

18 + 0 = 18

18 - 0 = 18

19 + 0 = 19

19 - 0 = 19

Facts With 1

Add 1 to a number and the answer increases by 1.  Count on 1.

Subtract 1 from a number and the answer decreases by 1.  Count

back 1.

10 + 1 = 11

10 - 1 = 9

11 + 1 = 12

11 - 1 = 10

12 + 1 = 13

12 - 1 = 11

13 + 1 = 14

13 - 1 = 12

14 + 1 = 15

14 - 1 = 13

15 + 1 = 16

15 - 1 = 14

16 + 1 = 17

16 - 1 = 15

17 + 1 = 18

17 - 1 = 16

18 + 1 = 19

18 - 1 = 17

19 + 1 = 20

19 - 1 = 18

Facts With Doubles

Think of 5 fingers on each hand.  5 + 5 = 10

Think of an egg carton with 6 holes on each side.  6 + 6 = 12

Think of a calendar with 7 days in each week.  7 + 7 = 14.

Think of a box of 16 crayons with 8 crayons in each row.  8 + 8 = 16

Think of a dice with 9 dots.  9 + 9 + 18

Think hands and toes.  10 + 10 = 20

5 + 5 = 10

10 - 5 = 5

6 + 6 = 12

12 - 6 = 6

7 + 7 = 14

14 - 7 = 7

8 + 8 = 16

16 - 8 = 8

9 + 9 = 18

18 - 9 = 9

10 + 10 = 20

20 - 10 = 10

Nine's Trick

Addition - When you add a number to 9, picture 9 counters in a ten frame.  Take one from the other number to put with nine to fill up the ten frame and make 10.  So your answer is 10 + the other number - 1.  We know that 9 + 6 = 15.  Take 1 away from 6 and the 9 becomes 10.  Now you are adding 10 + 5 (the original 6 - 1 used to fill the 10 frame).

Subtraction - If the sum of the digits in the larger number (minuend) = the number being subtracted (subtrahend), the answer is 9.  If you are subtracting 9 from a number between 10 and 19, the answer is the sum of the digits of the larger number in the problem.

9 + 2 = 11

2 + 9 = 11

11 - 2 = 9

11 - 9 = 2

9 + 3 = 12

3 + 9 = 12

12 - 3 = 9

12 - 9 = 3

9 + 4 = 13

4 + 9 = 13

13 - 4 = 9

13 - 9 = 4

9 + 5 = 14

5 + 9 = 14

14 - 5 = 9

14 - 9 = 5

9 + 6 = 15

6 + 9 = 15

15 - 6 = 9

15 - 9 = 6

9 + 7 = 16

7 + 9 = 16

16 - 7 = 9

16 - 9 = 7

9 + 8 = 17

8 + 9 = 17

17 - 8 = 9

17 - 9 = 8
